At first the scribes are dismissive of her demands, but Gawx vouches for her via spanreed and commands them to do what she says. Lift figures the best way to find the other Radiant first is to find someone doing something "strange" in the city, so she goes to the Grand Indicium, the repository for all writings in the city, and demands an investigation. Darkness vows to take care of Lift himself. They plan to execute the other Radiant that very night. He does the next day, and after she makes her report about the slippery, glowing girl, Lift follows Darkness to his home and spies on him and his initiates.
Lift finds the city guard from earlier and follows her to her abode, hoping that Darkness will show up. She feels like she's constantly being scammed. The Stump is cranky and cynical because many children come to her who have some sort of mental illness, and after they have been with her for a while, they are healed. It's run by an old lady referred to as the Stump and haunted by a strange old philosopher. She finds an orphanage in order to get some food.
She also has the goal of eating all ten varieties of pancakes that they make during the Weeping. She hopes to find and protect another Radiant that she knows he's hunting in the city. Upon arriving at the city, she makes sure to display her Edgedancer powers to the guards so that she can find Darkness. Lift travels with her spren Wyndle to Yeddaw in Tashikk from Azimir where her friend Gawx had recently been crowned emperor. Sanderson has a thing with families, which generally works well, and considering Kaladin/Tien, Shallan/Helaran and Eshonai/Venli we already have a tendency for Radiance to spread in a family however, having every member of a family become radiant like that would take away some of the uniqueness of the radiants, not to mention that between Renarin's corrupted spren, Adolin reviving his, and Dalinar bonding the freaking Stormfather, we'd have an entire family consisting of "unique" radiants, which would really be pushing my suspension of disbelief.Īdolin's a great character, and I won't deny that he has what it takes to become an edgedancer But it'd be a bit much for every Kholin to join the ranks, most in a unique way, and it'd take away from his uniqueness as a non-radiant as well, as many others have said.For a chapter by chapter summary, see /Summary. Oddly enough, my biggest gripe with it is that, should Adolin become radiant, it will mean Literally every Kholin ends up as a Radiant (Not counting Navani since she married into the name).
